1.
Select at least two students whom you teach who have mild disabilities. Locate and read their IEP or 504 plan. Identify the accommodations or adaptations that you are required to use with these students. Use these students’ profiles/learning characteristics as a guide in completing subsequent module activities.

2.
Identify the accommodations and adaptations that you use on a regular basis. Describe how those accommodations and adaptations match the students they are required for, and what the impact of learning has been for those students due to your use of those accommodations and adaptations.

3.
For all classes you teach, find out how many students have IEPs or 504 plans. Develop a matrix grid for each class you teach. List IEP or 504 plan students’ names down one side of the matrix grid, and write the accommodations or adaptations along the other side of the matrix grid. You will probably find that some accommodations or adaptations begin to repeat themselves; enter those on the grid only one time. Then, using the IEP or 504 plan as the source, complete the grid by placing an X in the corresponding box of the grid for each student. You have just simplified an organizational tool for yourself; you have now developed an accommodations or adaptations at-a-glance that can serve as a guide when you are planning and teaching these students.

4.
First, identify a unit outcome for the content you teach and describe how you plan to present a lesson within that unit. Second, identify characteristics of a student who requires an accommodation and the matching accommodation for the unit outcome and lesson presentation. Third, identify characteristics of a student who requires an adaptation and the matching adaptation for the unit outcome and lesson presentation.
example:

5.
For a student who has an IEP or Section 504 plan in your class (or if you do not have a class, access a student’s IEP or Section 504 plan via your professional contacts or the Internet), describe the accommodations or adaptations listed on the IEP. Relate the accommodations or adaptations to the implications for your teaching considerations so that the student is most likely to experience success in accessing the general education curriculum in your course.
