1.
Target one course you teach, and identify which of the universally-applicable methods you already use. Identify specific universal design methods that you could use, and describe how you could apply the method(s) in your future teaching. Use the methods described in this lesson’s text, the supportive handouts, and in the required readings as possible methods you could further develop for this activity.

2.
Identify your content area and your state’s standards for that content for the course you teach. Review the Fordham Foundation’s scoring criteria and your state’s score for that curriculum. What are the scoring criteria that Fordham Foundation curriculum experts apply to your content area? How did your state score? In what ways could you enhance the curriculum at a planning stage prior to delivering instruction to learners? Fordham Foundation website: www.edexcellence.net/standards/best.html

3.
Find your content’s national organization curriculum standards. Find either your state or your school system’s standards for a course you are teaching or are preparing to teach. Compare and contrast the organization’s standards to your local or state standards for your course. Choose one to further analyze. Determine areas that need enhancements (i.e., areas that are weak as written) and describe how to enhance those areas so that students with mild disabilities are more likely to successfully benefit from your teaching.
